Who is this Alex Eilts guy anyhow?
I am an ecologist who is interested in communicating science through film. particularly science which is related to the diversity of life on earth. The variety of life across the globe is not only inspiring but a living laboratory where natural processes create beautiful patterns. Discovering the organisms with which we share our planet is exciting, but understanding the science that forms the basis of how we comprehend the complexity we encounter is equally invigorating. Telling the story of a place, through the lens of scientific understanding, allows us to highlight what is unique and also relate seemingly disparate places to each other. Including science in nature films is the difference between observing our world and understanding it. As far my background goes, I hold a bachelors degree in Biology from the University of Maryland and a doctorate from the University of Arizona in Ecology, and Evolutionary Biology. I have conducted research to understand how species coexist and what conditions lead some species to out compete others. I have a broad set of interests ranging from physiology to global scale biogeography. The richness of life across the globe captured my attention from an early age. I have traveled from the arctic to the southern hemisphere simply to observe the diversity of species, and the unique habitats that are tucked away in far flung places.
